Hyderabad: Providence opens GIC, to hire 2,000 techies in 4 years

Hyderabad: US-based healthcare firm, Providence, on Thursday, announced its plans to invest around $100 million and hire 2,000 employees by 2024.  The $26 billion dollar healthcare firm is the fourth US company to open a facility in the city in the last four months.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Hyderabad Global Innovation Centre, Providence India senior vice president Murali Krishna said, “The GIC has been launched to focus on technology and development in the healthcare industry.
Hyderabad being a hub of innovation, we look forward to building world class capabilities to enable and deliver Providence’s vision, driving a lasting social impact. I am excited to build a team that will apply technology and innovation to transform care.”


The GIC, which will be 350-member strong by the end of the calender year and would ramp up to 2,000 in 3-4 years, will be headed by Mr Krishna, who joins Providence from Microsoft.

The development centre, first outside the US, will focus on engineering, data intelligence, digital innovation, professional services, cyber security, application development and tech support.

The GIC will build and innovate with Big Data, artificial intelligence, machine learning, Oracle Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Web Development, Natural Language Processing, Analytics, and other emerging technologies, the company said.

Meanwhile, B.J. Moore, executive vice president and CIO, Providence said, “Technology plays an important role in bringing Providence’s vision of ‘Health for a Better World’ to life.” The GIC was inaugurated in the presence of Telangana state IT minister K.T. Rama Rao and US Counsel General for Hyderabad, Joel Reifman.
