Ex-MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha in court over anti-police rant

Jhansi died during the course of the trial. On Thursday, Ms Kavitha appeared before the court while the other two were absent.

Hyderabad: Former MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the daughter of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on Thursday appeared before the Nampally court in connection with a case registered against her during the by-election to the Nizamabad Urban Assembly constituency in 2010 in the midst of the statehood agitation.

Supporting then BJP candidate Yendala Laxminarayana, who had resigned for separate Telangana and contested again in the by-election, Ms Kavitha and others held a dharna before the superintendent of police and passed several remarks against the police. In this connection, the police had lodged a case against Ms Kavitha and three others — Mopineni Nirmala, Jhansi Rani and Jugal Kishore — for wrongful restraint and disobeying order promulgated by a public servant. She was also booked for violating the election code.

Jhansi died during the course of the trial. On Thursday, Ms Kavitha appeared before the court while the other two were absent. The court later issued fresh notices to the duo. Police told the court that one of the accused has died. The court posted the case for March 19. Ms Kavitha was asked to submit a personal bond of `10,000 and appear in court on that day.
