Telangana: Girl caught cheating in exam attempts suicide

Four cases of copying have been booked in Telangana during the intermediate second language examination.

Hyderabad: A first-year student jumped off a building in Warangal when she was caught copying in an examination on Wednesday.

Four cases of copying have been booked in Telangana during the intermediate second language examination. Two cases of copying were noted in Vikarabad and one in Nagarkurnool.

Seven students took the test of which five were from Medchal and three from Adilabad.

The first-year student P. Sunitha attempted suicide after she was caught cheating in the final exams at an examination centre in Hanamkonda. The 16-year-old was caught by the invigilator copying answers from chits she carried with her.

The invigilator told her to stand outside the examination hall. Embarrassed at being caught cheating, she jumped from the third floor of the building. She was taken to MGM Hospital and found to have fractures in both her legs.

The girl is a resident of Warangal and is studying in a local college. Oddly enough, students' organisations and parents of the girl launched a protest outside the examination centre demanding "justice" for the girl. The police convinced them to call off their protest in view of the ongoing examination.

Officials from the education department said that despite checking being carried out at the entrance gates, the four students had chits with them. “The presence of chits with students shows that the checking at the entrance was not properly carried out,” said a senior official.
