MLAs' LS poll work to decide K Chandrasekhar Rao offer of nominated posts

Those who have performed well are likely to be rewarded with nominated posts.

Hyderabad: TRS legislators and leaders will have to wait till the Lok Sabha elections are over to get nominated posts.

After the cabinet expansion and Assembly Speaker and Deputy Speaker’s elections, TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has decided to fill all nominated posts only after the Lok Sabha elections. Those who have performed well are likely to be rewarded with nominated posts.

Telangana state Legisla-tive Council Chairman K. Swamy Goud is retiring on March 29, 2019. Mr Rao has to select one MLC as the chairman of the Council. Former assembly Speaker K.R. Suresh Reddy could be nominated a Member of the Legislative Council and made chairman of the Council. Former Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari’s name is also under consideration for the same post.

The state government has to appoint a Chief Whip and four whips in the Assembly. The Council chairman, the Chief Whip and other whips will have work only during the sessions of both houses.

Assembly and Council meetings will be held only after the Lok Sabha elections to present the full-fledged annual budget. Mr Rao feels that there is no urgency to fill these posts. For Chief Whip in the Assembly, MLA Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar is under consideration.

Chairpersons will be needed for the several corporations in the state. Mr Rao has categorically said that these posts will not be given to MLAs and only party leaders and those denied party tickets in the recent Assembly elections will be given preference.

Party leaders can also be made Zilla Parishad chairmen, and mayors of municipal corporations in the ensuing Municipal and Zilla Parishad elections which will be held around June 2019.

There are also six vacancies in the cabinet. The Chief Minister announced in the Assembly two days ago that two cabinet posts will be given to women.
