Kerala CM launches Mascot Hotel renovation

Mr Vijayn also unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion and opened a month-long exhibition depicting the 100 years.

Thiruvananthapuram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday inaugurated a Rs 25 crore project for the restoration of the heritage of the Mascot Hotel, coinciding with the celebrations of its 100 years.

The comprehensive project, initiated by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation (KTDC), was unveiled soon after the Mascot Hotel bagged five-star status.

Mr Vijayn also unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion and opened a month-long exhibition depicting the 100 years.

Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran who presided over the function said that Mascot had achieved a distinction of being the first five-star hotel in the public sector.

He reminded of the need to adopt quality service and new marketing strategies to compete with private players in the hospitality industry.

K. Muraleedharan MLA, KTDC chairman M. Vijayakumar, and managing director Rahul R., tourism director P. Bala Kiran, director I. Krishnakumar and marketing manager Raj Mohan G. S. attended.

The project is being executed by the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society

On the hotel map published by the Bombay-based Indian Hotel Company in 1937, Mascot was one among the four hotels listed from South India.
