Anantapur: Prof B. Yegnanarayana, INSA senior scientist cautioned the engineering students about the ill effects of technology.
“One of the dominant topics of discussion in every forum these days is the evolution of technology and its influence on our thinking. Everyone talks about artificial intelligence and machine learning saying that they are the future. But learning modern technology is simple. We don’t realise that that every new technology will replace the current ones sooner or later,” he said. The INSA scientist was the chief guest at the Xth annual convocation of JNTU Anantapur, held at the university auditorium on Wednesday.
Addressing the convocation, he said that education was not to set goals to make the students as employees, but effective changes in education are reflected in the ability of the students to develop independent thinking.
“Making them employable should not be the only goal of educational institutions. Parental pressures and societal pressures dominate over individual choices leading to dissatisfaction,” he said.
Effective changes in education are reflected in the ability of the students to develop independent thinking, Mr Yegnanarayana said and stressed the need to improve communication skills as the engineering students had campus sel-ections in their early semesters even before getting certificates.
After graduation, most of them looked for jobs that were comfortable rather than challenging. He further added that it looked as though most of them wanted to retire early.
