Tamil Nadu: Over 9 lakh students to appear for plus-2 exams

The exams will be conducted from March 1 to April 16 in 2,794 exam centres across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

CHENNAI: Over 9 lakh students will write plus-2 exams beginning from Thursday. The exams will be conducted from March 1 to April 16 in 2,794 exam centres across Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Among the candidates 4,63,758 are girls and 4,03,176 are boys. In a significant rise, the number of girls appearing for the exam is roughly 15 per cent (60,582) more compared to the boys. Two transgender candidates are also registered among the private candidates. Of 9 lakh candidates 5.32 lakh candidates are appearing in Tamil medium.

In Chennai, 50,584 students will appear for the plus-2 exams from 156 exam centres. This year 103 prisoners also will write the exams at the centre in Puzhal prison. In a release on Tuesday, director of government examinations D. Vasundradevi said, “This year we have set up flying squads consisting of 4,000 members. Cellphones are banned inside the exam halls. Even the invigilators are not permitted to use cellphones during exam time.”

The director also announced the setting up of exam control centres for airing complaints, clarifying doubts. These centres will function from 8 am to 8 pm on exam days.
