SHRC seeks report on torture on advocate
Hyderabad: The SHRC ordered Asifnagar ACP to submit a report by June 19 on the alleged third-degree torture on an advocate Mirza Mouzam Baig by Langarhouz police a week ago. Baig's sister Azmath Unnisa Begum approached the Commission, stating that police had illegally arrested her brother and subjected him to torture, due to which he is in a critical condition in hospital.
Meanwhile, Inspector, Langarhouz, C Anjaiah denied the allegations, saying that they had followed the procedures as per the law and did not indulge in any activities as had been claimed.
Azmath claimed that Langarhouz Police had picked up Baig on a false complaint by a woman. Later she came to know through his friends that Baig was admitted at Premier Hospital in an unconscious state. The hospital staff told her that policemen had admitted him to the hospital and left. She, however, shifted him later to another private hospital at Kacheguda for better treatment, where the doctors, after conducting tests, stated that he was subjected to third degree torture and beaten severely, and hung upside down for hours. All this happened under the influence of a woman who complained about Baig.
