Madras high court has ordered issuance of statutory notice to the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation LTD.

Chennai: Madras high court has ordered issuance of statutory notice to the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Salem) Limited, requiring his personal appearance before the court on March 5 in connection with a contempt of court case. “Since the order of this court has not been complied with, issue statutory notice to the managing director, Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Salem) Limited, the contemnor and the contemnor is also directed to bring a demand draft for Rs 10,000 which was already directed to be paid to the petitioner,” said Justice T. Raja while posting to March 5, further hearing of the contempt petition filed by S. Krishnan, a retired employee of TNSTC.

Since the pensionary benefits were not settled by TNSTC, the petitioner moved the high court, which had on June 8, 2015 directed the TNSTC to grant pension to the petitioner as per the pension rules application and settle the arrears of pension. The court also made it clear that all the terminal benefits should be paid on or before August 31, 2015. However, the terminal benefits were not settled. Therefore, the petitioner filed the present contempt petition.

When the contempt petition came up for hearing on February 6, 2018, the judge had directed the counsel for TNSTC to comply with the earlier order and to pay an amount of Rs 10,000 to the petitioner for not complying with the order. On Tuesday, when the matter came up again, it was brought to the knowledge of the judge that the order has not yet been complied with. Following this, the judge ordered the personal appearance of the managing director of TNSTC (Salem).
