Hyderabad: Actor pays above MRP for bottled water
Hyderabad: A twenty-five-year-old filmmaker here was shocked when he was made to pay Rs 34 for mineral water costing only Rs 20 as per the MRP on the bottle.
Even after a prominent restaurant was recently fined Rs 20,000 for charging Rs 20 extra for mineral water, restaurants keep charging extra money for bottled water. On Sunday, around 9:30 pm, Aditya Shankar went for dinner in a Chinese restaurant in Secunderabad.
He was charged Rs 14 extra on the MRP printed on the bottle even though he has complained about it to the manager. Restaurants claim they are not aware of the changes in rules related to food business, but they should follow the Supreme Court order, says Aditya.
“This is the first time I came across such a situation and I enquired with the waiter first and the issue later got escalated to the manager. He says he does not know about the Supreme Court order and said he’ll talk to the accountant. The court order was issued in October last, and still they do not know. In the end, I had to pay the complete bill. Even if a hotel charges extra, people don’t know whom to complain to,’’ he said.
C.V. Anand, in-charge controller for legal metrology, said, “If we receive a complaint directly or by email, we will take action against the restaurant.’’
