Bengaluru: KIA alternative road closed for repair
BENGALURU: The alternative road to the Kempegowda International Airport via Begur will be closed for public soon. The road had been opened temporarily to prevent inconvenience caused to road users because of Aero India 2017 that was held at the Yelahanka Air force Station from February 14-19.
The existing katcha road of 1.6 km from Mylanahalli Cross to KIA will be closed for asphalting work and is expected to be ready in three months. PWD Secretary Laxminarayana told Deccan Chronicle, “Properties have been acquired along the 1.6 km stretch at a cost of Rs 15 crore. The mud road had been thrown open temporarily for the air show. It will be closed to carry out the asphalting works. The stretch will be converted into a four-lane road.”
Asked whether one side of the road will be kept open for traffic till the work is completed on the other side, he said, “That is not possible as hundreds of vehicles plying on the road will kick up dust inviting the wrath of KIAL officials. The road will be closed for traffic till works are completed."
Nrupathunga Road shut
The BBMP and traffic police which had announced that Nrupathunga Road would be closed for public from Monday morning decided to shut the road from Monday midnight to avoid confusion and heavy rush on the beginning of the week.
“White topping will be completed on one side of the road to facilitate the movement of BMTC buses and vehicles going to government offices,” said Mayor G. Padmavathi.
Additional Commissioner for Police (Traffic) R. Hitendra said, “We have allowed the BBMP to carry out the works on the road and have made alternative arrangements for traffic movement through Cubbon Park. As they had not begun the works, the road was not closed for traffic.”
