Ameenpur lake to get a big boost
Hyderabad: Ameenpur lake which was recently notified as a biodiversity heritage zone, will get a sewerage treatment plant. Chief adviser to the government Rajiv Sharma on Monday held a meeting with officials at the Secretariat to discuss measures to be taken to protect the lake from effluents from industries and sewage from surrounding residential areas. Mr Sharma asked officials to submit a detailed project report on constructing the plant within 15 days. The plant will have a 12-million litre per day capacity initially, which will be raised to 20 MLD later. Senior officials from Pollution Control Board, HMDA, Panchayat Raj and representatives from Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages, Aurobindo Pharma, Ace Tyres, Exel Rubber, Vilas Polymers, NS Engineering, TFL Leather Technique Pvt Ltd were present at the meeting.
He urged the industries located near the lake to contribute some portion of funds required to set up the treatment plant as part of corporate social responsibility. “Since Ameenpur lake has utmost environmental significance, it is the responsibility of the government and all stakeholders to protect it from industrial effluents and sewage. The state government will also try to mobilise funds from the National River Conservation Directorate,” Mr Sharma added.
Mr Sharma directed panchayat raj commissioner Nitu Kumari Prasad to visit the areas surrounding the lake and submit a report giving details on residential buildings nearby, layouts, population, property tax collected and illegal buildings. Special Protection Force Director-General Tejdeep Kaur Menon said the lake was getting polluted due to industrial effluents and sewage inflows coming from three surrounding areas.
