Telangana: Army to hand over land to construct new roads

The GHMC too has surveyed the area for new routes. But till date the GHMC has not approached the Army.

Hyderabad: The Army has come forward to hand over defence land for the construction of alternative routes. Land has already been identified towards Mahindra Hills. The proposal for the same has been sent to the Ministry of Defence. The GHMC too has surveyed the area for new routes. But till date the GHMC has not approached the Army. “Earlier, reasons like GHMC elections were citeed. However, even after the polls no one has approached us,” said Secunderabad Cantonment Board President Brig. A. S. Negi.

The closure of AOC roads issue, despite not being on the agenda of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board meeting held on February 27, continues to be the prime topic of discussion. Elected SCB members had prepared a letter signed by all of them that they be permitted to move a resolution under Section 258(1) to reopen the closed roads.

However taking a firm stand, the President of the Cantonment Board (PCB) said the matter had already been discussed at the December 10, 2015 meeting where it was declared by the President that the roads are internal military roads on A1 land and that Cantonments Act Section 258 is not applicable to these roads.

To this the elected member J. Ramakrishna asked a question on why the orders of the Ministry was not placed before the board

Secunderabad Cantonment Board CEO Sujata Gupta clarified, “at the time the letter was received, the board consisted of only 2 members – the President and the CEO of the board, and a circular resolution was passed. The letter was placed on the web site.

Brigadirt A.S. Negi, the President of the SCB said. “We have sent 36 reports so far to the Union Defence Ministry and if the defence ministry had any objection to SCB not opening the roads they would have asked for explanations by now.”
