Ireland emerging on Indian students' radar
Chennai: Barry O’ Driscoll, senior education advisor with Enterprise Ireland, said the number of Indians opting for educational institutes at Ireland is quite low in comparison with the UK and the US.
He said this during a workshop where delegates from top 12 institutes from Ireland visited the city and engaged with the students giving details on courses, programme information, stay back policy, visa and so on.
Only Ireland provides one-year postgraduate course, he said. “Indian students mostly prefer to go to the U.S. and the U.K. But we are seeing many Indians coming to Ireland,” he said. Research masters programme is for two years while theoretical masters programme is for one year, said Dr Derek Sinnott, professor at Waterford Institute of Technology. “We give one-year visa to work for post graduation courses whereas U.K. gives three years,” he said.
According to Dr Girish Kumar, a medical student, Ireland, has limited options for medical studies while it has good options for IT and MBA. “I want aeronautical engineering, but only one university has it,” said V.A. Darshan, student from SRM University.
