CBSE schools getting saffronised: Experts

Former judge of Madras HC explained that the fee fixation act is valid and CBSE is also covered under that act.

Chennai: CBSE has become a major part of saffronisation and it is not excluded from the purview of fee fixation act, eminent Chennaiites said during a seminar conducted by the Tamil Nadu Students’ Parents Welfare Association on Saturday.

Speaking at the occasion, former judge of Madras High court P. Shanmugam explained that the fee fixation act is valid and CBSE is also covered under that act. It is only under the control of the board.

“CBSE is not excluded from the purview of Fee Fixation Act because in the concurrent list, the state has got the power. While the Centre has not passed any law so far, the state had fee fixation panel,” he said.

He added that CBSE regulations also say they must clearly follow state government instructions regarding the fee. “So there is no scope for CBSE schools to not follow the instructions prescribed by the fees act,” he said.
M.G. Devasahayam, former bureaucrat, said CBSE has become a major part of saffronisation.

“They want to virtually take over higher secondary schools. They want to completely change the pattern by digitalising and do away with the existing syllabus, which is based on certain norms, history culture,” he said.

Prince Gajendra Babu, general secretary of state platform for common school system, said the Fee Regulation Act and the Fee Committee was formed to protect the interest of students and parents and ensure that school managements don’t suffer any loss.
