Army trains Punjab Police in counter-terror operations

The personnel from the Rising Star Corps were given training with the army.

Jammu: With Punjab having faced the Gurdaspur and Pathankot terror strikes, the army has trained 25 police personnel from the state in counter-terrorism operations.

"25 Punjab Police personnel from five districts -- Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Taran Tarn and Batala -- took part in training in counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations from February 15-27," Defence Spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehra said.

The personnel from the Rising Star Corps were given training with the army, he said.

The training was aimed at infusing better synergy, coordination and understanding between the two organisations while conducting counter-terrorist operations, he said.

Mehra said the exercise included areas like improving physical fitness, field craft, dealing with improvised explosive devices, human rights, establishment of mobile vehicle check-post, house clearance drills, snap shooting and other counter-terrorism-related operations.

Similar joint training is also underway in other locations falling under the Western Command theatre, he said.
