Amma Kaipesi scheme launched in Chennai

At a cost of Rs 15 crore for 20,000 Community Self-Help Group trainers.

Chennai: Chennai residents can now enjoy the pleasure of an angling and eco park with the Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Saturday inaugurating the renovated Chetpet lake with the facilities, along with a slew of infrastructure projects, and the much talked-about “Amma Kaipesi Scheme” (mobile phones) for Community Self-Help Group trainers.

The lake had been renovated at a cost of Rs 42 crore with an add-on amusement feature like hi-tech angling, boating and an eco-park. At the Secretariat, Jayalalithaa launched projects worth several hundred crores through video conferencing.

She also inaugurated a host of new government buildings, including residential quarters, office buildings and State Water Resources Management Agency office.

A high-level bridge in Ariyalur district, bed dams in Ramanathapuram and Thanjavur districts and a reservoir in Perambalur district were also inaugurated.

“The renovated Chetpet lake abounds in Indian fish varieties and has a capacity to store 1.44 lakh cubic meters of rainwater. In a boost to bio-diversity promotive measures, the eco-park features hundreds of plants and rare saplings around the lake. In addition, the facility has a pollination park and a 1.5 km-long walking track,” an official release said.

Jayalalithaa also launched the “Amma Kaipesi Scheme” at a cost of Rs 15 crore for 20,000 Community Self-Help Group trainers.
