Chennai: A 17-year-old boy driving his relative’s car knocked down five persons and rammed into nine parked vehicles in Washermepet on Sunday. According to the police, the teen, son of one Pandiyan from Madurai, had come to his relative’s house in New Washermenpet for a vacation.

The teen continued to drive the vehicle and some locals who witnessed the accident chased the car and pelted stones at it. The vehicle then rammed into five
two-wheelers and four autorickshaws parked on the roadside and hit four pedestrians.

Based on acomplaint, police registered a case and took the boy and his relatives into custody.

“His parents shouldn’t have allowed him to take the car. Teaching him to drive a car is not safe. The laws are strict now.

We will not spare any parent who allows their minor children to drive a car or a bike,” said a traffic police officer.Further investigations are under progress.
