Bengaluru: Rowdy attacks cops during arrest, shot at

The inspector opened fire in the air to warn him to surrender and later shot at his leg when he tried to flee.

Bengaluru: Yeshwanthpur police opened fire at a notorious rowdy sheeter after he attacked two constables with a machete while trying to evade the arrest in RMC Yard police station limits early Sunday.

The accused has been identified as Gautham, 22, a resident of B.K. Nagar in Yeshwantpur and was listed as rowdy sheeter in Yeshwanthpur police station. He had more than seven criminal cases against him, including attempt to murder.

According to the police, on Thursday evening, Gautham along with his two friends, Prashanth and Salman attacked two people identified as Vinod Kumar and Maruti with lethal weapons near Matha School in Yeshwanthpur and escaped. Around 2 am, the police received credible information that Gautham and his friends were in RMC Yard and rushed to the spot. Gautham noticed the police approaching him and immediately attacked two constables, Shivakumar and Bajanthri with a long machete. The inspector opened fire in the air to warn him to surrender and later shot at his leg when he tried to flee.

The two constables have sustained injuries and were rushed to the Victoria Hospital, where they are being treated. Gautham was also taken to the Victoria Hospital.
