Hyderabad High Court: Plea seeks probe into baby deaths

He submitted that in November 2017 the death of two children of the Sishu Gruha at Nalgonda were reported with the local police.

Hyderabad: A public interest petition has been moved before the Hyderabad High Court challenging the action of the Centre and the Telangana state government in not taking action against the authorities responsible for the death of children and allegations of trade in babies at the Sishu Gruhas run under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme.

The NGO Balala Hakkula Sangham, represented by its president P. Achyuta Rao moved the PIL stating that for several months newspapers had been carrying reports about the deaths of children in Sishu Gruhas in Nalgonda, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and other districts. The media was also reporting on the sale of children from the Sishu Gruhas by their employees.

Mr Rao alleged that the authorities were providing substandard food to the children, contrary to the recommendations for supplying nutritious food to them.

He submitted that in November 2017 the death of two children of the Sishu Gruha at Nalgonda were reported with the local police.

He urged the court to direct the Centre and state government to inquire into deaths and alleged selling of children and take action against the culprits.
