There are 101 ways to improve the system within the frame work of law. I have the confidence that I can improve the system: Justice Shetty

Bengaluru: Former high court judge Justice P Vishwanath Shetty, who is likely to take oath as the Lokayukta in a day or two, says he will restore the confidence of people in the anti-graft institution.

Justice Shetty told Deccan Chronicle “I am glad the Governor has approved the recommendation of the state government. Regarding swearing in, I am not specific about dates. Whenever the government fixes the date, I will take oath. I will definitely restore the faith and confidence of people in this institution. There are 101 ways to improve the system within the frame work of law. I have the confidence that I can improve the system."

When asked about powers of Lokayukta curtailed with establishment of the Anti -corruption Bureau (ACB), Justice Shetty said "setting up of one more investigating agency will not come in the way of functioning of the Lokayukta. Addressing public grievances is utmost priority of Lokayukta. If a public servant does not discharge his or her duties, people have the liberty to approach the Lokayuta for justice. Once I take charge, I will examine power and functioning of Lokayukta."

Regarding raids by officers of Income Tax department on residences and offices of politicians, Justice Shetty said "unless I look into the Lokayukta Act after establishment of ACB, I am not able to comment on it.”
