Chennai: Refuting Congress allegation that the State government had ignored the legislators with regard to inviting them to the Republic Day celebrations here, Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam said though only those MLAs who permanently resided in Chennai were invited for the event, his government was willing to invite all the members in future.

Responding to an issue raised by Congress floor leader K.R. Ramasamy, in the Assembly on Friday, Mr. Panneerselvam said normally the Government extended the invitations to all the MLAs residing in Chennai and dispatched the cards to those legislators who ask.

“Accordingly, we have invited the Opposition party members too. This practice was followed by the previous DMK government too,” he added.

At this DMK floor leader M. K. Stalin commented, “we are glad that the AIADMK government is following the DMK steps. You could consider inviting all the MLAs,” “I did not say we followed the DMK. I said it was the practice followed during the DMK regime,” Mr. Panneerselvam replied and agreed to consider sending the invites to all the members.
