Telangana: BCs to protest for 34 per cent reservations in panchayat raj polls
Hyderabad: BC leaders have decided to stage protests at district collectorates on December 29 to demand that the government continue 34 per cent reservations for the community in the panchayat raj polls.
BC leaders from non-TRS parties along with the BC Welfare Association of Telangana held a round table meeting at a private hotel in the city on Wednesday. TS state president L. Ramana, BJP state president K. Laxman, CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy and others took part in the meeting.
The meeting decided to highlight that the TRS had won the elections using BC votes is now suppressing the commuity. The leaders will meet Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi and give a representation on Friday.
BC Welfare Association president J. Srinivas Goud asked BC leaders in the TRS to pressure Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for 34 per cent reservations. He said protests of BCs would be intensified if the government didn’t enhance the quota.
Mr Ramana said, “Though we have demanded an all-party meeting, KCR is avoiding it. We will fight for BC reservations. The new reservation reservations rule will hit about 1,200 BCs will get injustice. If needed we will protest in Delhi too.”
Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao criticised Congress leaders for staying away. He said, “Fearing that I will bag the credit, the Congress did not attend the meeting. KCR knows each and every movement in Gandhi Bhavan. But I will not step back from my fight against the government.”
Dr Laxman said, “The Federal Front that Mr KCR is working on is for the benefit of his family members. The Chief Minister is intentionally targeting BC communities by cutting down their reservations. We must meet the Governor and a meeting should be organised in Osmania University, so that the Chief Minister will understand the problem.”
