Hyderabad High Court irked by lapses in junior panchayat raj exams

Counsels for the petitioners said the key had more than six wrong answers.

Hyderabad: Stating that the panchayat raj department had committed blunders in conducting the written examinations for the recruitment of 9,355 junior panchayat secretaries (JPS), the Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday asked the department to explain why it had not translated 14 questions into Telugu for candidates taking the examination in the Telugu medium.

Justice M.S. Ramachandra Rao while dealing with a batch of petitions found mistakes in the question papers and in the final key, published by the department and has sought an affidavit by December 31.

Counsels for the petitioners said the key had more than six wrong answers. They stated that more than 14 questions were not translated into Telugu.

Mr Rahul Reddy, counsel for the petitioners, said the Telugu medium students could not attempt those questions and lost 14 marks.

He submitted a notification copy which indicates that separate papers would be issued for written exams according to their chosen language among English, Telugu and Urdu.

The Additional Advocate General said the petitioners had not approached or given any representation even three months after the examination but had filed the petition at the time of selection.

Justice Ramachandra Rao felt that the mistakes could not be ignored and advised the AAG that mistakes should be accepted and said the courts would follow the law.

The judge directed the government to submit anaffidavit on the issue of translation and allegations of providing wrong answers in the final key, as highlighted by the petitioners and said that orders on this will be pronounced after the further hearing on December 31.
