Tamil Nadu sand lorry owners association to observe fast
Chennai: Taking into consideration nearly 1 lakh lorry owners and ten lakh building workers currently put into hardship because of several issues, including sand crunch, m-sand controversies and a blanket ban on sand quarries, Tamil Nadu Sand Lorry Owner's Association are staging a one-day fasting demonstration on Thursday at Salem.
“The Chief Minister's recent announcement on opening 70 extra sand quarries to meet the sand shortage, must be reconsidered. Also, efforts are on to obtain a solution to the blanket ban,” said R. Panneerselvam, president, Tamil Nadu Sand Lorry owners Co-ordinate Welfare Federation.
He further added that the government must take action against those illegally extracting river sand and on those who are importing adulterated sand from other places.
According to real estate records, already, 1 lakh jobs have been lost in Tamil Nadu alone and 1 crore square feet of construction work is delayed. Rs. 10,000 crore worth of investments is affected which have resulted in serious losses for developers and customers.
