Release water to save standing crops: Nellore District Congress

Dr Panabaka Krishnaiah has underlined the need to fill all the tanks in Gudur constituency.

Nellore: Nellore district Congress unit has demanded the district administration to take steps to release water for irrigation and drinking from Kandaleru dam and Swarnamukhi Barrage to cater to the needs of Vakadu, Kota, Chittamur, Chillakur and Gudur mandals. In a representation submitted to the revenue authorities, district Congress committee president Dr Panabaka Krishnaiah has underlined the need to fill all the tanks in Gudur constituency mitigate the water problems in the region.

Mr Krishnaiah along with farmers belonging to Kota, Vakadu, Chittamuru, Chillakuru and Gudur mandals held a meeting at Indira Bhavan here on Tuesday.
After the meeting a delegation of 50 farmers under the leadership of Dr Panabaka Krishnaiah met the collector and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate release of water to rescue the farmers. The DCC president explained to the collector about repeated failure of crops from last two years in Gudur division. Pointing to the paddy cultivation in 15,000 acres this year under Swarnamukhi Barrage, he appealed the collector to release water from Kandaleru dam to save the crops.

He said that people also facing problems for drinking water apart from irrigation. Drinking water problem has already started which needs to be addressed by releasing water from Kandaluru. The farmers also urged the collector to release water with in three to four days.
