Governor P Sathasivam wants govt to file report on political violence

Over 100 workers were attacked and property worth crores was damaged in the political violence.

Thiruvananthapuram: Governor P. Sathasivam has sought a detailed report from the state government on the political violence that has occurred in the state since 2016. This follows a representation made before the governor by a BJP delegation about the increasing CPM attacks on the party cadres in Kannur. A five-member delegation led by state president Kummanam Rajasekharan told the governor that 15 BJP-RSS workers had been killed ever since the LDF came to power in May 2016.

Over 100 workers were attacked and property worth crores was damaged in the political violence. Mr Kummanam alleged that the violence had spread to Thrissur and Kottayam. “The CPM has changed its tactics. Instead of killing the BJP-RSS cadres, it is now maiming them so that they suffer throughout their lives,” he added. Apart from Mr Kummanam, the delegation comprised O. Rajagopal MLA, Thiruvananthapuram district president S. Suresh, vice-president P. P. Vava and spokesperson J. R. Padmakumar.

However, CPM Kannur district secretary P. Jayarajan alleged that Mr Kummanam was behind the recent attacks on CPM workers in Mattannur. He said in a Facebook post that RSS leader Valsan Thilankeri and RSS pracharaks in Mattannur along with Mr Kummanam had hatched a criminal conspiracy for violence. “Kummanam had held a secret meeting at Mattanur to attack and kill CPM members in the district,” Mr Jayarajan said. “The Sangh Parivar is attacking the CPM members in different parts of the state on the pretext of responding to red terror,” he added.
