Youth from Anantapur loses eyesight in Sabarimala stampede
Anantapur: Akhil, 24, of Anantapur lost his right eye vision and also suffered a major injury, possibly blood clot in the brain, during the Sunday stampede at Sabarimala in Kerala.
Akhil is into business and his father Raju is a realtor in Anantapur headquarters. Three days ago, Akhil and two others had left for darshan of Lord Ayyappa at Sabarimala.
Akhil was initially treated at a hospital in Kottayam, Kerala, and then shifted to Anantapur in an ambulance. As per preliminary reports, he is unable to see from his right eye following head injuries.
He also suffered injury on the legs and other parts. Doctors suggested CT scan to get clarification on possible haemorrhage. However, Akhil’s friends escaped with minor injuries in the incident.
The Anantapur collectorate set up a control room following the stampede at Sabarimala temple as a huge number of devotees are from Anantapur district. “We are still operating the control room to pacify concerned family members of devotees gone for the pilgrimage,” joint collector B. Lakshmi Kantham said.
