Telangana: Getting land for projects made easy now

Collector can negotiate with land owners, acquire land at mutually agreed prices.

Hyderabad: The state government on Monday tabled a Bill in the Assembly to amend the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 for speedy acquisition of land for various projects. It is likely to be approved on Tuesday.

Under the new Act, irrigation projects, electrification projects, industrial corridors have been exempted from social impact assessment.

Acquisition of land by the state government by entering into agreement with willing land owner are among the norms that have been incorporated.

The government has amended the Centre's land acquisition Act, 2013 to avoid procedural delays in land acquisition to take up various irrigation and power projects.

The state government had made several attempts earlier to make land acquisition faster by issuing a series of government orders, which have either faced legal hurdles or have been struck down. The government then decided to bring a law to replace the government orders.
