Jayalalitha assets case will not be closed: Acharya

'The case will not be closed because Jayalalithaa is no more but there are three more accused, including her close aide, Sasikala.'

Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has decided to file a memo before the Supreme Court, informing it about the death of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J Jayalalithaa, but the disproportionate asset’s case pending against her and three others will not be closed, according to Special Public Prosecutor, B.V. Acharya.

“The case will not be closed because Jayalalithaa is no more as there are three more accused, including her close aide, Sasikala,” Sasikala for CM?

While the court cannot convict her as she has passed away, the other three, Sasikala, V.N. Sudhakaran and Elavarasi are accused of conspiring with her to acquire properties and the case against them is serious in nature,” explained the SPP, who is appearing for Karnataka in the Supreme Court.

Although AIADMK cadres have been putting immense pressure on ‘Chinnamma’ Sasikala to take over the party and become Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, her political entry is said to be uncertain on account of the case pending against her in the Supreme Court. The Karnataka High Court had on May 11, 2015, acquitted Ms Jayalalithaa and her three associates in the disproportionate assets case saying the special court had miscalculated the assets while convicting her in 2014.

The special court’s order sentencing her to four years imprisonment and imposing a fine of Rs 100 crore on her, was challenged before the high court by the accused in the case.
