Approach police, court tells petitioner on Jayalalithaa's death plea
Chennai: The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Egmore at Allikulam, has adjourned the hearing of a petition seeking direction to prosecute Sasikala, her relatives and top officials in connection with the death of former Chief Minister and AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa in Apollo hospitals on December 5 after 75 days of treatment, to January 11 next year.
When the petition filed by K.S. Gita, claiming to be a family friend of Jayalalithaa, came up for hearing before CMM, J. Chandran on Monday, he directed the petitioner to approach the police station concerned.
On behalf of Gita, advocate, R. Krishnamurthy appeared before the CMM. In the petition, Gita submitted that Jayalalithaa was kept in Apollo hospitals under suspicious circumstances for 75 days and suddenly the hospital declared her death on December 5, 2016 at 11.30 pm.
Suspecting that proper treatment was not given to Jayalalithaa, Gita said she died under suspicious circumstances. She hoped that deposition by Sasikala and others before the court will unearth the truth and the mystery behind her untimely death. “I strongly suspect that they must be behind my beloved friend's death. They are solely responsible and answerable for the death of Jayalalithaa,” the petitioner stated.
She sought the court to direct the state government to preserve the CCTV footages in the late Chief Minister's residence 'Vedha Nilayam' located in Poes Garden, from September 1 to December 6 and the footages from the CCTVs installed in the Apollo hospitals from September 22 to December 6 pending disposal of the petition. Directing the petitioner to approach the police, the CMM, Chandran adjourned the petition to January 11.
