900 LPG cylinders explode in Chintamani area of Karnataka

The explosion led to a commotion and massive traffic jams around the area.

BENGALURU: In a massive explosion, two trucks loaded with at least 900 LPG cylinders parked near a godown in the early hours of Monday in Chintamani near Chikkaballapura. The police said that there were no casualties.

As the 900, fully-loaded cylinders caught fire, a high-intensity explosion was caused, which was seen and heard from heard even at a great distance awway from the site. The explosion led to a commotion and massive traffic jams around the area.

“At least 900 gas cylinders burst after two lorries caught fire near the godown of SNL Gas Agency in Chintamani. A car parked nearby too caught fire. Right next to the godown there is a residential school. Fortunately, the school had remained closed because of Christmas holidays and some of the students who were at the schools were safely relocated. There was no loss of life or injury to anybody as there was no one inside the vehicles,” the police said.

More than 10 fires tenders were rushed from Chikkaballapura, Siddlaghatta and Srinivasapura, and they doused the fire within half-an-hour. The local police are investigating.
