Bengaluru: Did a careless attempt by a powerful BJP leader in the BBMP council to break a section of the Hulimavu lake bund on Sunday, disregarding the consequences, lead to the human catastrophe which destroyed valuables and equipment in hundreds of homes, forcing residents to flee?
While the police remain tight lipped about who could be responsible for the breach of the lake bund, sources say it all started with people living in some apartments round the lake complaining about a foul smell from the water body. According to them, the BJP leader then instructed his men to break the tank bund to drain the dirty water causing the odour. But this turned into a misadventure. Alarmingly, there are reports that a BWSSB engineer is to blame for instructing home guards to break the bund to reduce the water level.
