Chennai: Farmers from six villages in Uthiramerur in Kanchipuram district staged a road roko on Tuesday, following dispute over a common pathway used by the villagers.

Sources said, farmers of Vedapalayam, Poonthandalam and Ponnalur villages have been using a common pathway to get to their farmlands for the past six decades.

Recently the Uthiramerur revenue administration had acquired the common land for the extension of Uthiramerur court.

According to the protestors, they had filed many petitions with the revenue officials, but they were not concerned. Following this, farmers resorted to a road roko at Uthamanallur village in Madhuranthagam and blocked the Uthiramerur - Vandavasi highway, and demanded the revenue officials to give their land back.

On information, Uthiramerur police and revenue officials rushed to the spot and held talks with the protestors. They demanded that the authorities should take effective measures and rectify their problem.

After hours of talk, the protesters dispersed as officials promised to solve the issue soon.
