Kovai woman injured in elephant attack
Coimbatore: A 45-year-old woman suffered minor injuries in a wild elephant attack near the Periyanaickenpalayam range in Coimbatore forest division on early hours of Monday.
According to a forest source, while the officials of district forest office were planning to prevent further elephant menace using new methods, a new herd of five tuskers entered the Therkupalayam-Arivozhi Nagar area close to Narasimanaickenpalayam in Periyanaickenplayam range on Monday.
The herd reporterdly crossed the Coimbatore-Mettupalayam road by breaking the metal barricades and entered the nearby village. One among them split from the herd and headed towards the house of Vijaya, a vegetable vendor.
While the woman was heading to a nearby bush to answer nature’s call, a tusker on its way slightly knocked her. Vijaya was flung off and suffered minor injuries, AP watchers along with Rapid action team staffs who were on driving operation rescued and rushed her to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) with the help of an ambulance.
