Kalyanadurgam beckons TD chief
ANANTAPUR: Speculation is rife over Chief Minister and TD supremo N Chandrababu Naidu’s plans to contest from another segment in the state as he wants to provide an opportunity for his son Nara Lokesh on the home turf of Kuppam.
Mr Naidu plans to contest from Anantapur district and asked party leaders to submit a report about the Kalyanadurgam segment. During his recent visit in the district, Mr Naidu reportedly expressed willingness to contest from a constituency other than Kuppam and asked top leaders to check all possibilities for the 2019 general polls.
Kalyanadurgam is a constituency located on the Karnataka border and also close to Rapthadu and Rayadurgam Assembly segments.
The opposition YSR Congress is unable to get a stronghold here during the past four-and-a-half years due to the lack of strong leadership.
The Congress had a stronghold in Kalyanadurgam following large scale developmental works during the previous government when APCC president N. Raghuveera Reddy was minister from the Kalyanadurgam segment. Mr Raghuveera Reddy hails from the Madakasira segment which was reserved for SCs during the delimitation process.
