George denies rumours of saffron shift
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Janapaksham leader and MLA P. C. George on Monday scotched rumours that he will be aligning with the BJP. Mr George’s denial came after social media became agog with the news that the Poonjar legislator is expected to join the saffron side after three BJP members in the Poonjar panchayat voted in favour of his party in the vice-presidential election. Mr George told DC that the BJP was not keen on supporting the Congress which resulted in them voting in favour of the Kerala Janapaksham candidtate Leela-mma Chacko in the election.
Mr George said that election happened in Poonjar panchayat after his party’s vice-president stepped down when it was jointly ruled by the LDF and the Kerala Janapaksham. “We had the support of five members and needed three more members on our side to get back to power,” he said. “Now we have the support of 8 of the 13 members in the panchayat council.” Mr George was elected to the state Assembly in the 2016 election as an independent candidate, defeating both the LDF and the UDF.
