Vijayawada: All Assam Students Union (AASU) leaders met Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Monday seeking his support for their movement against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 placed in Parliament by NDA government, which will hamper the interests of people of North eastern states.
The AASU leaders delegation including Dipanka Kumar Nath, president, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, general secretary, Dr Samujjal Bhattacharjya, chief advisor, Prof. Basanta Deka and Prof. Shikar Sarma, Gauhati University met the CM.
The delegation members said that the government of India has placed the citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 in Parliament and a joint parliamentary committee is entrusted with interacting with various groups and individuals across the country. The Bill proposes to regularise all the illegal immigrants from Bangladesh into Assam till 2014 on the basis of religion. They said that they opposed the Bill.
They said that the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 will pave way to regularise all the Hindu Bangladeshis till 2014. The Bill will make the Assam Accord invalid. They appealed to the CM to persuade the government of India to withdraw the proposed communal Bill, to discuss with the Union government for deportation of the illegal Bangladesh nationals and sealing of Assam Bangladesh border.
