Vendors block traffic at Lalitha Nagar
Visakhapatnam: Driving a vehicle through Akkayyapalem main road is turning out to be a nightmare for the locals. The traffic jams take place during mornings and evenings regularly due to the increased number of street vendors. The residents of Lalitha Nagar have become habituated to congested roads. Lack of speed breakers, parking space and a road divider led to minor accidents at this place.
Currently, the locals find it more horrible as the digging works have further narrowed the road. “When the workers started digging at the centre of road, we thought the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) sanctioned a divider for this stretch. Later, we come to know that they are digging for electric pipes and cables,” said Satish Chander Ghiya, a resident of the area.
This road has to be widened ten years ago along with the 80-feet road. However, the local persons have objected the development as there is a Masjid at one end and Muslim burial ground at the other end of the location. They have gone to the court and received a stay order, he added. The colony is a mix of residential and commercial buildings with 19,000 to 21,000 residents.
