Give a chance to prove I'm daughter of Jaya, appeals woman; SC says go to HC
Bengaluru: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a petition of a woman, who claimed to be the daughter of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
Amrutha Sarathy, 37, requested the apex court to give her one chance to prove that she is the daughter of later AIADMK supremo.
A bench of Justices MB Lokur and Deepak Gupta refused to allow Sarathy's plea to conduct DNA test for the purpose of proving her parentage.
Sarathy told the Supreme Court that she was born on August 14, 1980, and was raised by Jayalalithaa's estranged younger sister, Shailaja, and her husband in Bengaluru, according to a report in NDTV.
She said that her relationship with Jayalalithaa was kept under wraps to "uphold the dignity of the family as they belonged to a very religious, orthodox and cultured Brahmin family".
Senior advocate Indira Jaising, who appeared for the woman, had also sought cremation of Jayalalithaa as per Hindu rites since she was an Iyengar Brahmin.
Sarathy filed the petition along with Jayalalithaa's two cousins. The court, however, said the petitioner is at liberty to approach the Karnataka High Court.
