CM Siddaramaiah on BJP: they are adherents of Godse

According to him, the Congress needs to rise above such politicking and oppose any idea that tries to distort the idea of secularism.

Bengaluru: Launching a veiled attack on Pejavar Math seer, Sri Vishvesha Tirtha Swamiji, Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah on Sunday warned that any attempt to make amendments to the Constitution with regard to religion will result in people rising against such moves.

Speaking at the launch of developmental works in Hosakote near Bengaluru, Mr Siddaramaiah said of late, talk of amending the Constitution for political and religious purposes has been doing the rounds. "This is the worst trend we have come across in the recent past. Another reason for worry is that such talk is coming only from those who believe in the ‘philosophy of Godse,’ hence, it is very dangerous," he contended.

According to him, the Congress needs to rise above such politicking and oppose any idea that tries to distort the idea of secularism. He argued that the present form of the Constitution is one of the best pieces authored by none other than Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar who perhaps must have been inspired by the 12th century poet-social reformer Basavanna, who too wished to see a world of equality.

"Equality and equal opportunities to all and secularism are the core values of our Constitution, so was Basvanna's philosophy, which will never be understood by those who believe in the philosophy of Godse," he ridiculed.
