Chennai party leaders condole death of Fidel Castro

Karunanidhi recalled a poem, he had written in 2006 on Castro, describing the Communist leader as the international leader he respected most.

Chennai: Political leaders on Saturday condoled the death of former Cuba President and leader of the Communist revolution in the country Fidel Castro and showered lavish praise on him for guiding his nation in the socialist path for about 50 years.

Karunanidhi recalled a poem, he had written in 2006 on Castro, describing the Communist leader as the international leader he respected most. He described the achievements of Cuban socialist revolution and how Castro faced the US challenge. DMK treasurer Stalin described the death as a loss for all the races with a passion for liberation.

CPM state secretary G. Ramakrishnan said Castro proved that capitalism could not solve people's problems and only socialism could. He defeated the embargo announced by the US which was just 90 miles away from Cuba. He is a revolutionary who enthused the international communist movement, Ramakrishnan added.

CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan said the US which declared a war on Cuba was defeated and the US intelligence agencies failed in their repeated attempts to assassinate the Communist leader. Castro provided free education and healthcare to the people and gave them employment and happy life.

Terming Castro as a model for Marxist Lenism, PMK leader S.Ramadoss said though he was born in a rich family, the Cuban leader did not live like a rich man. MDMK general secretary recalled Catro’s words ‘History will acquit me’ when he was tried for treason and said those words still inspires everyone fighting for their nation’s liberation.

PMK youth wing secretary Anbumani Ramadoss said Castro was a revolutionary as well as a people’s leader. VCK leader described him as a symbol of ‘anti-imperialism’ and he escaped from the murder attempts of US intelligence agencies for 637 times. DMDK leader Vijayakanth said Castro spent his entire life for the country’s progress.
