Hyderabad: The United Federation of Resident Welfare Associations (Uferwas) has prepared a constituency-wise manifesto in the run-up to November 30 elections, highlighting issues from Khairatabad, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad Cantonment, Kukatpally and LB Nagar constituencies.
Khairatabad locals demanded wider roads and action against footpath encroachers. They also sought a bigger underground drainage system.
“The present drainage system is unable to take the load in some areas as a result of which sewage is getting mixed with drinking water in some localities,” said federation general secretary B.T. Srinivasan.
Kukatpally residents expressed concern at the blatant manner in which chemical effluents were being released by factories into the open nalas, and the problems faced by the closure of the drainage system.
“The unscientific disposal of chemical effluents is putting the health of all residents at risk,” said G. Jayashree, a resident of Road No. 4, Kukatpally Housing Board Colony.
The manifesto points out that in Malkajgiri constituency, a proposal to widen the RK Puram flyover has been pending for several years.
Malkajgiri has three major lakes — Mukidi Cheruvu (RK Puram lake), Nadimi Cheruvu (Safilguda lake) and Bandala Cheruvu — that have been encroached. The manifesto called for their immediate restoration. Urban flooding is a major issue in Malkajgiri, it said.
Meanwhile, the Federation of New Bolaram Colonies Welfare Association (FNBCWA) had sought development of the Bolaram railway station and improved sanitation in government offices and railway stations.
