Link highway shortens travel time and distance

Travel distance to reduce by over 50 km between Dhone and Orvakal

Kurnool: A new road link with two lanes, between NH-44 and NH-40, is set to reduce travel distance by over 50 km, streamlining the route between Dhone and Orvakal.

This direct connectivity, located within the Kurnool and Nandyal areas, allows travellers to save more than an hour by avoiding detours through Kurnool and its surrounding areas.

The 53.33-km-long road construction, on EPC mode, estimated at a cost of Rs 630 crore, began at Somayajulapalli in Orvakal mandal of Kurnool district and would extend to Dhone in Nandyal district, styled as NH 340-B.

Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath set the foundation for the project in May this year. The road connectivity would support economic growth and improve regional transportation.

This road infrastructure is of top importance. It plays a significant role in facilitating various industries in both districts and expedites transportation facilities. This is beneficial for mining and quarrying and will provide direct connectivity to the Orvakal airport.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has been involved in furthering these infrastructure initiatives. During the fiscal year 2022-23, he set the foundation stones for eight NH Projects in AP at a total estimated cost of Rs 3,000 crore. This would provide world-class infrastructure and create employment opportunities in the region.

“The new road has begun and is expected to be completed in a year. We are currently getting the forest clearances for fast completion of the project. This provides an excellent opportunity for direct travel from Dhone to Orvakal without any hassles. They needn’t take the longer route via Kurnool etc,” the finance minister told Deccan Chronicle.

He said the government is focusing on public convenience and infrastructure development by collaborating with the Centre. A major portion of the road has been completed and the rest in a year’s time.
