Outbreak of viral fever at Kovvur

Several people suffering from fever, joint pains, weaknesses, headache approached government hospital at Kovvur but nobody has responded

KAKINADA: An outbreak of viral fever is reported from Kovvur of West Godavari district. Several people are suffering from fever, joint pains, weaknesses, headache etc. They approached the government hospital at Kovvuru, but “nobody has responded.”

On Tuesday, the number of cases increased and some patients fell unconscious.

Women and child welfare minister Taneti Vanitha rushed to the hospital and informed the district medical officials, She also alerted the municipal commissioner and revenue officials. West Godavari district collector Karthikeya Misra and joint collector Himanshu Sukla visited the hospital and spoke to the doctors and patients.

Vanitha advised officials to deploy additional medical and health officers and other personnel to treat the patients mainly in the worst-hit Sriramnagar area of the first ward in Kovvur. She said officials were trying to identify the reason for the sudden outbreak. Facilities were being provided to do lab tests and platelet counts for dengue fever.

The outbreak has been brought to the notice of chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy and deputy chief minister Alla Srinivas. Two ambulances have been arranged at Sriramnagar area to shift patients to the government hospital.

Meanwhile, sanitation is in poor shape in Kovvur area and the quality of drinking water is also low. Kovvuru RDO Mallibabu, Kovvuru municipal chairperson Ratna Kumari, Deputy DMhO Ramaguru Reddy and municipal commissioner Sudhakar visited the GH.
