Kurnool: Reinvestigation ordered into rape, murder of tribal girl
Kurnool: AP home minister, Mekapati Sucharita, has ordered a fresh inquiry into the rape and death of a minor girl at the Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy School on August 19, 2017. ASP Ramadevi has been asked to reinvestigate the case and nail the culprits.
The 16-year-old girl was a Class X student when she was killed. Police, led by DSP Vinod Kumar, had taken into custody the school officials — Vallapureddy Janardhan Reddy and his sons Diwakar Reddy and Harsha Vardan Reddy.
The victim’s parents were allegedly pressurised by the police to withdraw the case but they persisted. The investigating officer had even questioned the social status of the victim and claimed that she could not be labelled as tribal, as if that would have had made the crime less gruesome. DIG Venkatarami Reddy is learnt to have given the contours of the case to the ASP.
