Hyderabad: No parking lights, driver loses life

In this case, at around 1.30 am, on October 18, a speeding truck (RJ 19 GB 8332) ran over Raj Ali, 30, who was changing the tyre of his lorry.

Hyderabad: Not turning on parking lights while changing the tyre of his lorry proved fatal for its driver when he was run over by a truck at Raikal Toll Plaza on National Highway 44, near Shadnagar, a week ago.

A team of Cyberabad traffic police, which analysed the reasons for various accidents, has found that accidents largely take place on national highways when road users do not take the required precautionary measures while parking their vehicles.

In this case, at around 1.30 am, on October 18, a speeding truck (RJ 19 GB 8332) ran over Raj Ali, 30, who was changing the tyre of his lorry.

He got crushed under the wheels of the speeding lorry and died while undergoing treatment at a hospital an hour later.

Following the incident, the Cyberabad traffic police constituted a team to study reasons for such accidents and submit a report to higher-ups for taking the required preventive measures.

“Erecting signage using cones, boards, red flags or any available material would prevent such incidents. Turning on the parking lights is the safety measure, which drivers must compulsorily follow when they park vehicles along the carriage way,” said Cyberabad DCP (Traffic) S.M. Vijay Kumar.
