International recognition for hitech classrooms

KITE vice-chairman gets AECT award.

Thiruvananthapuram: The state government’s ambitious Hitech classroom project has bagged international recognition. Vice-chairman and executive director of Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE), K. Anvar Sadath, has become the first Indian to receive the International Contributions Award of the Association for Educational Communications and Technology.

The AECT is the premier professional association for instructional design and educational technology based in the USA.Dr Phillip Harris, executive director of AECT, presented the award to Mr Sadath at a function held at Kansas City on Friday.

“ Mr Sadath's outstanding and continuous contributions to the field of educational communications and technology in the international setting is well-appreciated. We are impressed with all his work and service to this field in the international setting, especially in India,” the committee opined.

Mr Sadath, in his reply speech, said the strength of the state’s IT-enabled education was the integration of technology into curriculum to enh-ance teaching and learning. This was mainly do-ne by the adoption of Fr-ee Software and the pioneer works done by the University of Colorado, University of Salzburg and Massachusetts Insti-tute of Technology (MIT). In addition, the educational technology resear-ch done by the members of AECT was helpful in understating the practical application of learning theories and instructional design models in our classrooms, he said.

Mr Sadath headed the implementation of Hi-tech School project in the state. He had earlier worked as director of Akshaya and head of UNDP-supported e-Krishi.
