Brace up for a 30% fee hike
Hyderabad: Brace up for a fee hike for professional courses from the ensuing academic year. The state government revises the fee structure once in three years and the next revision is due in 2019-20. The last time the fee was revised in 2016-17.
The Admissions and Fee Regulatory Committee will issue a notification soon seeking fee revision proposals from management of professional colleges.
Colleges plan to seek 10 to 30 per cent hike over the existing fee.
The revised fee will be applicable for three years till 2021-22.
The tuition fee for engineering, pharmacy, MBA, MCA, MTech courses will be revised. The AFRC, which determines the fee structure is headed by a retired judge.
The term of previous AFRC chairman, Justice Swarup Reddy, ended in December last year. The government has failed to appoint a new chairman since then.
The government has to refer the names of three probable candidates to High Court Chief Justice for the chairman. The Chief Justice will recommend one of them for appointment.
With the Assembly elections nearing, the government is expected to take up this selection process only after the new government takes over in December.
All the managements of private professional colleges will be asked to submit audited financial statements on their income an expenditure apart from revised fee proposals.
The AFRC will go through these financial statements and take a call on the quantum of hike. The existing method of determining fees for each college separately based on the infrastructure facilities and faculty they offer, would continue during the next fee revision also. While lower rung colleges are seeking up to 10 per cent fee hike, the top-notch colleges want the fee hike to be up by 30 per cent.
