Bengaluru: A 16-month-old boy, diagnosed with H1N1, died at Vanivilas Hospital on Thursday, taking the total number of swine flu deaths in the city to five this year.
The child, Dhanaraj, was the son of Yogananda and Nathravati, residents of Yaganahalli. He was suffering from fever since last weekend and was being treated at a private hospital. There was no improvement in his condition and he died on Thursday evening. Doctors also confirmed that the death was due to H1N1.
With this, the H1N1 death toll in the state has gone up to 12 since January 1. Across the state, 6,113 people were tested for swine flu, of which 770 were reported positive.
Dr S. Sajjan Shetty, Joint Director, communicable disease, Department of Health and Family Welfare, said, “The audit committee reports are yet to come and there will be meetings in all districts on Saturday. Only after that we can confirm the exact numbers. We have already released Rs 25,000 to each district for vaccination and other requirements. If needed, we will release more funds.”
